I spent the morning and afternoon welcoming people to the LGBTQ community booth. There were people thrilled we were there. A few people sat and talked with me about life in New Mexico as a gay person. There is something incredibly rewarding about having people share their stories with you. My favorite visitor was this young boy about 8 or 9 who shared his excitement about walking in the gay parade this year. In the evening, one of our volunteers brought a guitar and all those working the booth sang the night away. It attracted many people to the booth where they were able to interact with many people. I have a goal for next year to have a gay day at the State Fair. What do you think? Thank you to all the volunteers who dedicated their Friday evening to the State Fair for EQNM. </span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><o:p><span style="font-family:Cambria;mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:Cambria;mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin;mso-bidi-Times New Roman";mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi; mso-ansi-language:EN-US;mso-fareast-language:EN-USfont-family:";"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">Check out the booth if you are going to the fair. </span></span> </o:p></p></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipPNAt1ydTM5Ve_7NSBalaAUs4i5SDVAGfyD0pNQNYNlfYqNJorWgOQBUPwvIKnqGsydz9tN5jFVmCxRwqF9hzmjDjzaKqb2aFTXENOL_sxuNCCF7hFAJjKExm795WsmOrPwZ26hGnknB0/s1600-h/SFB+2009.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipPNAt1ydTM5Ve_7NSBalaAUs4i5SDVAGfyD0pNQNYNlfYqNJorWgOQBUPwvIKnqGsydz9tN5jFVmCxRwqF9hzmjDjzaKqb2aFTXENOL_sxuNCCF7hFAJjKExm795WsmOrPwZ26hGnknB0/s320/SFB+2009.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5383761492394901874" /></a><br /><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">We will also be on main-street on Friday September 25</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;">th</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;"> for Women’s Day at the Fair.<br /></span></div><div> <p class="MsoNormal"><o:p><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:large;"> I also presented at the Safe Zone training for Albuquerque Public Schools on Thursday September 17. It was an incredible day of getting to know people, eating great food, and hearing stories about how the Rainbow Club began. For the first time during the Las Vegas Fiestas, the Rainbow Club had a float in the parade. The outcome has opened up dialogue, hearts, and minds of those in the area of Las Vegas, NM. </span><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:medium;"> </span></span><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:medium;"> </span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:medium;"><br /></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><o:p><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:medium;">I learned quickly to make myself at home and appreciated the hospitality of all those present. I look forward to building my relationships with people from the Rainbow Club. Katherine Palmer, the statewide coordinator for PFLAG, also attended and I had the pleasure of hearing about all the PFLAG chapters that are emerging throughout our state. If you see Katherine, please thank her for the tremendous work, time, and support she provides to LGBTQ communities in New Mexico.</span></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:medium;">On my way back home, I was reflecting on how our community is becoming visible and expanding in various areas throughout New Mexico. I was thinking about a comment someone made on Saturday about how members of our constituency will be there for you at any given moment along with thinking about the significance in giving back to a community. It was an afternoon of inspiration and one to be treasured.<br /></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:medium;">There are many opportunities coming up for you to get involved with EQNM.
